Exercise: Learning to Listen to your Body-Mind
Whenever you have a particular physical need or problem you can go to your body-mind and ask for information.
Physical Problems
With any physical problem from a headache to a sprained ankle or from a cancerous growth to a condition of depleted immunity you can go to your body-mind and ask for information about the underlying cause of the problem and gain insights for treatments, solutions and the management of symptoms.
Using the above visualization, take your awareness into your body-mind and then focus upon the area of your body that is damaged, sick or uncomfortable. If you are dealing with a general condition such as one of depleted immunity, focus upon your whole body. Deepen your breathing and imagine that your breath moves beyond your lungs into the area or areas that need healing, filling them with energy, peace and new life.
Almost as if you were able to switch on listening devices or amplifiers inside your body, imagine that you can listen to what is going on. The information may come to you in the form of feelings, impressions, thoughts, images, sensations or inner voices. Just notice and make a note of any ideas, insights or impressions that you receive once you have completed the exercise. It may help you to ask your body some appropriate questions. Here are some ideas to help.
What is the underlying cause of this problem/condition/illness/pain/restriction/symptom? (Choose whatever is appropriate for you.)
What can I do to heal my arm/digestion/breast/lungs/immune system/back, etc.?
How can I release or heal the pain/discomfort/blockage/restriction/disease?
How can I best manage or transform my symptoms?
Is this problem/condition caused by unexpressed emotion/poor diet/negative or limiting beliefs/bad posture/lack of exercise/fear, etc.?
What do I need to be doing differently in my life in order to heal myself?
Listening to physical information and asking for guidance takes practice. Do not feel put off if you do not receive direct answers to your questions. Sometimes it is enough to ask for information and be willing to listen to your body for a process of healing to begin.
Diet and Exercise
You can ask your body-mind about the suitability of any foods, exercise or treatments before and after you take them. Various therapists test the body’s responses to a treatment before recommending it to their patients. Kinesiologists do something called ‘muscle testing’, for example, which is a system of asking the body for direct information about healing, food tolerance or therapies and gaining an immediate physical reaction. Some other therapists use equipment to measure changes in the body’s subtle electricity in response to a wide range of substances or enquiries.
For yourself, prepare a list of questions to ask your body-mind, or put together a collection of foods, medications and remedies to test with your body-mind. Have everything within easy reach, then either ask yourself the appropriate question, such as:
What foods would it benefit me to eat at this time?
What foods are best avoided at this time?
How can I best exercise my body?
What kind of treatment do I need for this
